Our Story Through the Years
A Legacy Built Over Generations
The story of JC's Country Diner began in 1950 when Junius Thompson opened The Green Rock Café, named after the distinctive green rock used in the original fireplace. Over the following decades, the restaurant passed through several owners and operated under different names before Jim and Carolyn Abel purchased it in 1990 and renamed it JC's Country Diner. In a unique twist of history, Jim had helped repaint the café ceiling as a Bear River High School student in 1958, never imagining he would return more than 30 years later as its owner and manager.
The diner continued to grow through the years, including the addition of a glass solarium in 1995 to accommodate larger groups and special events. After a devastating electrical fire caused extensive damage in 2002, the restaurant underwent major renovations and reopened later that summer. In 2022, lifelong friends Cammie Warren and Dixie Hirschi became the new owners, choosing to preserve the JC's Country Diner name because of its history and recognition within the community while building their own legacy.
